Workshop „Find a Job in Germany´s Industry "

Target group: Young researchers with international background (exclusively doctoral candidates or postdocs, not students!),  looking for a job in Germany's industry in the near future

A stable economy, good salaries and a wide range of interesting jobs attract international specialists to work in Germany. However, the application process is governed by the typical German correctness and formality. This seminar provides you with all the necessary information you will need when applying particularly on the job market outside academia. It is recommended for international PhD´s and Postdocs, who plan to start applying in the next 12 months and have little application experience.

  • Job search (active and passive strategies)
  • Application documents (cover letter, CV, certificates)
  • Starting salaries (Influencing factors and calculation)
  • Job interviews (preparation and practice)
  • Work permits (current regulations)

In this seminar you will understand how to target your search for future employment, and where you can look for vacancies. There will also be explanation and practice about the meaning of typical phrases in job advertisements. In the second part you get to find out how to apply for a job properly. You will learn how to write your cover letter and CV, and how best to adapt your application to the job description. Moreover, you will receive examples for cover letter and CV as well as recommendations for certificates. Subsequently, we will discuss typical starting salaries and practice a calculation method you can use for your future salary requests. In the next part, you will get general information about the interview structure, suitable clothing and salary negotiation strategies. We will also discuss your self-introduction, typical questions asked and ways of answering them while avoiding common mistakes. The final part will give you an overview of the current situation regarding work permits and their conditions.

Preparation

Please bring a printed job ad of one of your applications or select an example vacancy for your field of interest.
